There are certain moments in life that are simply magical and perfect and they only come by once in a lifetime. One of these is represented by receiving an engagement ring.
As time seems to pass and the years go by everything around us seems to change and devalue. Traditions are sometimes forgotten or ignored. The past and the present seem to be from two different worlds. Change is all around, except for a few traditions that we all seem to hold on to. The joy that is associated throughout the world with this piece of jewelry is clear as day and this tradition remains and it seems to grow in expectations as time passes.

In 1947 De Beers launched its now-classic slogan, “A Diamond is forever.” The campaign was successful in spurring even more sales. The word “Forever” does not imply to the diamond and it’s durability, but it was more psychological and it referred to the marriage as being forever. Something we all want in a marriage.

The truth remains that a proposal is always followed with the offering of an engagement ring. Even in movies, the proposal is always present in a love story, even if the couple does not have a wedding celebration afterward. The ring is stronger than the ceremony.
Maybe this tradition has remained because it was impregnated in our minds by stories or movies that tell tales of love. We have all read books or seen numerous amounts of movies telling a love story that seems to always end in the male part offering the female part a ring. We are all accustomed to this tradition and as much controversy as a wedding causes with all the details that the ceremony brings, the truth is that all women love jewelry.
There is a history to the diamond engagement ring and it goes as far as ancient Egyptian times. The Egyptians might have been the first to invent the concept of the engagement ring, but it is still unclear.
The Romans at one time believed that the ring finger contained a vein that led to the heart. The Roman men were believed to have originated this tradition by making their wives wear rings attached to small keys, indicating their husband's ownership over there. Roman brides-to-be were given two rings, a gold one which she wore in public, and one made of iron which she wore at home while attending to household duties.

There are still debates to this day as to how this tradition became a custom, but one thing is for sure, in the year 1477, Archduke Maximilian of Austria decided to commission the very first diamond engagement ring ever recorded for his betrothed, Mary of Burgundy. This is believed to have been the birth of a new trend for diamond rings all throughout European aristocracy and nobility.
The true value of an engagement ring is directly proportioned to the man offering it to you. As strong as your love is, that is the value of your ring. An engagement ring is a symbol of your relationship and the intent to proceed with your love together. It represents forever and it should last just as long.
